The Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes (NABB) received an early Christmas present when Maria Costello M.B.E and Amanda Mealing joined their ranks as ambassadors, helping to raise awareness of their crucial work.

Costello was the first woman (solo racer) in the history of the Isle of Man motorcycle races to stand on the podium and founder of ‘Woman on a Motorcycle’. Costello, who received an M.B.E. for services to motorcycling in 2009 said ‘I’m excited to team up with the NABB. Without the work of the Blood Bike charities, hospitals would be forced to pay couriers and taxis to transport urgent products out-of-hours. These amazing volunteers provide a rapid response courier service transporting hospital deliveries across the country but what’s most extraordinary is that very few patients actually know that a Blood Biker has been involved in their care – they are the unseen heroes of the night. I’m looking forward to getting involved and supporting this vital organisation’. “

Mealing is well known for her many screen roles, not least in BBC’s Holby City and Casualty. However, Amanda is also a genuine biker and is no stranger to the role of ambassador, having supported ‘Save the Children’ in Sierra Leone and more recently for ‘Breast Cancer Care’ having run the London marathon for them in 2012. We are looking forward to working with Amanda and Maria over the coming months.
