Freewheelers EVS was established in 1990 in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, to serve the new Weston General Hospital. From an initial slow and shaky start, which saw the group nearly fold for lack of funding, it now has around 60 volunteers and three active duty motorcycles which cover 100,000 miles a year making around 2,500 deliveries.
In June 2008, the group was awarded The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, which the highest award that can be given to any voluntary group - equivalent in status to the MBE.
Freewheelers EVS has three bikes based in Bath, Bristol and Somerset. It covers an area of 1,700 square miles stretching from Minehead in the west to Devizes in the east.
The charity currently has two BMW R1200RT bikes, two Honda ST1300 Pan-European, and a Honda NT700V Deauville as the backup machine for when the others are being serviced.
Anyone in Freewheelers area who is interested in joining should get in touch via the contact page. We are always looking for riders, telephone coordinators and fundraisers.
